Yesterday, once again, we came together celebrating the success
we all enjoy when we “Tri” together.
Mikayla’s Voice 2016 Tri for Inclusion presented by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs ~ is the first-ever inclusive youth triathlon in the country. The “Tri” is not a “special” event for kids with disabilities, but an inclusive USAT-sanctioned race for children and young adults of ALL abilities.
Typically the “Tri” is a combination of swimming, biking and running. However, this year we ran into a snag when a pool pump needed repair and was not ready days before the event. No pool? No problem! The 2016 “Tri” had the athlete run a half mile (in place of the swim) and then bike 2 miles and run the final half mile.
Athletes anxious to hear the starting horn sound!
Mikayla is suited up; eager and ready to “Tri!”
So many happy athletes……
Mikayla crosses the finish line in 20:29!
Owen, one of the many athletes who compete every year, zooms across the finish line.
We “Tri” with a little help from our friends, because no athlete should be left on the sidelines.
